The last project, before Olivier can go back to textile creativity is our workshop room which needs insulating the walls and insulating and putting down new floor.
We had to do a lot of planning and believe me that started already on the Island. We knew the size of the room, so started to think of the layout of tables and the size of the tables, and also height of the tables – you need different height for sitting behind sewing machine and different height for cutting the fabrics or making some felt! Now all the decisions have been made, the tables will have trestle instead of legs, which means we can easily position the height for anybody’s needs. And this is what the layout will be, in the case we have done all the calculations right. Otherwise we’re up to shifting furniture round and round.
We will have 3 groups of tables each sitting four students (red dots are chairs), each student will have a table 1,5m x 0.75m ( 60″ x 30″ ) plus there will be higher cutting tables along the walls together with ironing boards. After all those other variants I really love this one, now we just need to hope it will work the same way in reality as it does on the paper.
Here are some pictures of Olivier’s work in progress ….
There is still a lot to do, but we’re getting there, and we’re planning to have the first workshops up and running in the middle of May!!
