Alphabet with feries

Are you sometimes inspired by the fabric??? Do you buy fabric because you love it and have to find a project to use it in? Well as a shop owner I have these feelings most of the times we receive new fabrics … but obviously have to make a choice which one I  will sew with, as there is too many of them. This time the winner was this lovely Ferries Alphabet panel. from Michael Miller collections.

I let the different ideas flow through my head until I settled on a Shadow blocks. It’s simple and it’s letting the actual pictures be the focal point of the quilt.

Bright coloured shadows are lifting the orange and red tones in the actual drawings and dark green border is picking up on the green foliage.

It’s not very big quilt measuring 150 x 123 cm ( 59″ x 48″ ), but those little girls who would be enchanted by all those lovely Fairies will not need any bigger and as I was hand sewing the binding I found out it’s just perfect size for a lap quilt as well.

If you would be interested in making one like that, the panel is available here on our website. Or ready made one can be purchased from our Etsy shop .
